James Gunn unveils the future of the DCU ‘Gods and Monsters’

James Gunn has unveiled the future of DC films.

At last, the troubled DCU has a new plan in place.

With Guardians of the Galaxy writer James Gunn at the helm, alongside Peter Safran, we’ve been given a roadmap for the future of DC.

‘Gods and Monsters’ will kick start the next phase of the DCU, but Gunn says that that’s just a part of the first chapter.

What does the future of the DCU look like?

No Henry Cavill’s Superman, that’s already confirmed – but we can expect a large reboot.

Will this means all actors will be impacted? Not entirely, there are a few familiar faces set to continue their roles.

Aquaman 2 is still scheduled for a December 2023 release, we’re also still getting Ezra Miller’s The Flash movie.

Then after The Flash, everything changes. Gunn says this film will essentially reboot the DCU.

After The Flash movie is released, the first thing we can expect to see is a new movie titled Blue Beetle, a TV show based on the comic book character of the same name. We’ll also get another TV show that followed the story of Booster Gold.

Matt Reeves’ Batman trilogy is going ahead, with Batman 2 pencilled in for October 2025.

Gunn says the DCU has a multiverse and there’s still room for things like The Batman and Todd Phillip’s Joker.

In addition to this, an all new Batman is coming.

The new Batman movie will a focus on Batman’s son Damien Wayne, aka Robin.

As for Superman, Superman: Legacy is currently being written by James Gunn, with a July 2025 release in mind.

As for who is playing Superman… We’ll have to wait and see.

Other anouncments include a new TV series featuring the Green Lantern Corps, which will connect to the larger DCU.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow was also announced. This film will follow the character’s quest for revenge after her planet was destroyed.

The last thing James Gunn spoke of is a horror film on The Swamp Thing, and while he says it’s not directly part of the DCU, it’s still connected.

Is this the reboot DC needs? Only time will tell,..
