City Tales – Medieval Era keeps city building refreshingly low-stress, but as you work through the main progression quest, you’ll eventually run into the need to generate the vaguely defined “prestige” resource. Here’s exactly what it is, and the steps required to generate it.
What is prestige?
Prestige unlocks via your progression quest and serves as the key resource for higher milestones across both story and progression quests. Prestige is also essential for constructing the game’s unique “Masterworks“.

How do I generate prestige?
Buildings that reach expert level 2 generate prestige — one prestige point per production cycle. The steps required to achieve an expert level 2 building are as follows:
1. Level a companion to 8 in a craft.
Repeated assignments build a companion’s skill in any craft (construction, food, etc.) up to level 8. However, it takes patience — you’ll hit levels 4 or 5 quickly, but level 8 takes time. Grab a cuppa or tackle a companion quest while waiting.

Higher companion levels also speed up production cycles across the board.
2. Assign your level 8 companion to a matching production building.
Each building has three progression stages. You can use any companion to generate experience for the first stage (autonomous production). Expert level 1 (reduced cycle time) can be achieved with a companion at level 4 or higher. However, only a level 8 companion in the relevant craft unlocks building expert level 2.

3. Watch the prestige flow.
Once building expert level 2 is reached, the building generates 1 prestige per cycle autonomously — no companion assignment required.

However, keeping your level 8 companion assigned to an Expertise Level 2 building dramatically boosts prestige output via their reduced cycle time (~35% faster). Notwithstanding this, you will likely be best served by assigning the level 8 companion to other production buildings to achieve more expert level 2 buildings, increasing the number of buildings generating prestige autonomously.
