In recognition of Global Accessibility Awareness Day, Xbox has announced its latest accessibility controller in partnership with ByoWave: the Proteus Controller.
The Proteus Controller consists of swappable consecutive cubes with interchangeable faceplates. These cubes can be customised and re-arranged for greater versatility.

Opinions at Quest Daily are divided on the Proteus Controller. Some believe that the controller looks like a cool Ultrahand creation from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, while I believe it looks like Mobilo (though I often feel that accessibility hardware tends to resemble children’s toys, and as a disabled gamer I have strong opinions on that – but that’s a spicy-take salad for another day).

The Proteus features USB-C charging and comes with a USB-C cable and Bluetooth dongle right out of the box, along with over 25 interchangeable controller pieces. It’s set to release this spring.
Xbox already has the Xbox Adaptive Controller as part of their accessory line up, and has announced they’re working on further updates for this controller.

In addition, Xbox says they are continuing to rectify the damage done by the ‘unauthorised accessories’ update that hit Xbox last year, to continue to give disabled gamers the ability to play their way.
As a final cherry on top of the accessible cake, Xbox announced accessibility updates for popular titles such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III and Diablo IV, and a new Xbox Ambassador Accessibility Ally Badge for players to earn on their Xbox profile coming June.
