Star Wars: Unlimited | The Force Awakens my need for this TCG

May the Cards Be with You

In a galaxy far, far away, Star Wars fans are embarking on a brand new adventure with Star Wars: Unlimited (SWU). This fast-paced tabletop card game offers the excitement of lightsabers clashing and blasters firing, all in the form of fancy cardboard and nostalgia.

Launching into hyperspace just a couple of weeks ago, this action-packed TCG features iconic heroes, villains, ships, and settings from every corner of the galaxy.

The Force is Strong with SWU

Gameplay in Star Wars: Unlimited follows a system similar to Magic the Gathering (MtG), where you play one resource (or mana/land) per turn. However, here’s the twist: any card can be used as a resource, unlike dedicated land cards.

The most notable difference between the games is in SWU, every play is reactive. You can almost play anything after any move, making this game so much more fast-paced than MtG. You also draw two cards from your deck every turn.

With iconic leaders like Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker at your command, you’ll strategise your way to victory with unlimited power! If you’re keen to learn more, there’s a good ‘How to Play’ guide on the Star Wars: Unlimited website.

Heroes and Villains at your Command

In SWU, leaders play a crucial role in shaping your deck and guiding your strategy. Paired with your base, leaders determine which cards can be included in your deck and offer activated abilities to turn the tide of battle.

With 18 different leaders and 8 bases to pair them with, the strategic possibilities are endless. Will you lead the Rebellion or embrace the power of the dark side?

The Artstyle’s Lack of Faith is Disturbing

While the art style may not rival that of Magic: The Gathering, Star Wars: Unlimited boasts a vibrant comic book aesthetic that captures the spirit of the galaxy far, far away. From epic duels to thrilling space battles, every card brings the Star Wars universe to life.

Though, after first unboxing and looking through the cards, I was craving more. Unlike Magic the Gathering, none of the cards in the starter set had that “wow” factor.

That said, I went to my local card shop and picked up three booster sets in an attempt to scratch that itch. Straight off the bat, I snapped up Boba Fett, as well as a holographic Mandalorian starfighter.

I am one with the force and the force is with me.

Embrace Your Destiny

Whether you’re a seasoned tabletop gamer or new to the world of card games, Star Wars: Unlimited offers an exciting adventure for players of all levels. With easy-to-learn gameplay and endless strategic depth, it’s a game that will keep you coming back for more.
