LEGO has just released LEGO Play, a new mobile app aimed at sparking creativity in young builders. This new, kid friendly platform lets children design, build, and share their LEGO creations online, all while playing games and watching videos in a self contained app.
LEGO Play features tools like a creative canvas for image editing and a 3D brick builder, allowing kids to experiment with their ideas and showcase their work with friends.

As part of a LEGO loving family, I downloaded it for my five-year-old just to see what was on offer. I was surprised to see three mini-games available, including a fresh take on Flappy Bird, a Snake clone and a game where you fly around the skies in a plane dodging obstacles.

The games are all relatively user-friendly and great for little hands. However, the 3D brick builder was fiddly and I struggled to build anything even slightly complex.
The app features LEGO videos, uploaded by LEGO, in a TikTok/Reels inspired layout – thankfully there’s a short list of videos, so kids won’t be there glued to the screen for hours.
Is LEGO Play safe for kids?
It’s made by LEGO, so there’s a lot of love and trust here already. That said, there are social media-like elements, with the ability to upload and share photos with friends. So regardless of who made it, it’s always best to keep across what you’re kids are doing online.
Upon signing up, kids will be offered a series of random usernames to pick from and can select their own LEGO avatar – it all seems pretty self-contained, I’d just have questions about what sort of content filters are in place.
LEGO says they’ve got things in place to keep kids safe, including Verified Parental Consent and a content moderation team.

I checked it out LEGO Play on my iPhone 15 Plus; overall it’s a very basic app. The social media page seems to feature advertisements for other LEGO products, but for a free app and to be expected.
I’ll see how the kids go with it and report back if need be. For now, it looks to be a great little space for little LEGO lovers to get creative.
LEGO Play is available to download now from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. For more information, visit the LEGO Play website.
