Preview | Camper Van: Make it Home ‘Aesthetic Camping Without Pooping In A Hole’

There are so many cosy game demos out right now, thanks to the recent Steam Next Fest and as one of Quest Daily’s resident cosy gamers, I’ve accepted the challenge to demo as many as possible for you Questies.

Up next: Camper Van: Make it Home, an organisational aesthetic dream where you redecorate your own little rolling sanctuary.

The demo starts by asking you to play with the music on (I was going to anyway), the easy-listening tunes setting a relaxed tone for the game. You’re also given a book called ‘Your Life’s Journey’ that documents your travels — which I imagine means we’ll be visiting various different campsites in the full game.

Cute bed!

You can customise quite a lot in the camper van, from the bed sheets and cabinetry, right down to the charm hanging from the mirror. The only thing I couldn’t tweak was the steering wheel, which is probably for the best because I’d end up replacing it with something highly impractical (a cat plushie? A tiny disco ball?)!

My chosen charm.

Even though there weren’t a million design or colour options, I still spent a good 15 minutes picking everything because the color palette was that good. Everything just worked together — like a well-organised Pinterest board come to life. I ended up going with a watermelon-chic theme (pink and green in layman’s terms), and when I finally finished, my camper van looked so cute I half expected it to start its own Instagram page.

Like I said, watermelon-chic.

After finishing my camper, I was whisked off to a campsite! No instructions, no hand-holding — just vibes and a pop-up menu. After a solid minute of clicking around in mild confusion, I finally realised that I now had items to unpack. Crisis averted.

There’s even a Switch in a case for you to pack!

And unpack I did. There were a lot of items, and as many places to put them, but the camper van gently hinted at where they belonged. Plates? In the dish rack. Large porcelain tray? Obviously, that goes in the oven (for space-saving reasons).

You can put things wherever you want, though, so naturally I spent an embarrassingly long time making everything look perfect.

Yay all done!

Over an hour later, I was done. My camper van was peak aesthetic, and my soul was at peace. The demo left me wondering where the full game will take us — will we get different camper layouts? More customisation? A tiny digital dog? I look forward to finding out.

The demo for Camper Van: Make it Home is available on Steam.
