Bethesda Game Studios has shared the first detailed look at Shattered Space, the highly anticipated first expansion for Starfield. Launching on September 30th, the Shattered Space introduces a new storyline that explores the mysterious faction House Va’ruun and their homeworld.
Unwravel the mystery of House Va’ruun
In Shattered Space, players will land on Va’ruun’kai, a secluded planet where the Va’ruun people lead an isolated life cut off from the Settled Systems. Their society has been drastically impacted by a catastrophic event known as the “Vortex Incident,” which tore apart the Va’ruun capital of Dazra, leaving a crater in the city and its government in disarray. The minor Houses of Va’ruun now vie for control in the absence of their leader, Anasko Va’ruun, who remains missing.

A distinctly exotic and dangerous new world
Va’ruun’kai, the homeworld of House Va’ruun, presents a strikingly extraterrestrial landscape, even by Starfield’s standards. This new planet looks colourful, vibrant, and distinctly exotic. Its alien nature is amplified by gravity anomalies, and the strange and hostile creatures emerging from the Vortex. Slipping through the fabric of reality, threatening the Va’ruun people’s survival. Sounds kind of like an ‘Oblivion Gate’ from The Elder Scrolls IV, right?
Bethesda shared that there would be more emphasis on close-quarters combat and increased aggression of enemies, creating a more chaotic gameplay experience.
Additionally, as players unravel the fate of House Va’ruun, they’ll also be able to make critical decisions that could impact not only the faction but also shape the future of the entire Settled Systems.
The Shattered Space expansion launches on September 30th, exclusively for Xbox and PC players via Steam.
