PS5 Pro officially announced by PlayStation

The PlayStation 5 Pro has been officially unveiled by PlayStation, offering a major performance boost for current-generation games and the future. So, when’s it coming and how does it stack up?

PlayStation’s hardware lead, Mark Cerny, introduced the upgraded console early Wednesday morning, highlighting its significant leap forward for Sony.

“Simply put, it’s the most powerful console we’ve ever built,” he said.

How does the PlayStation 5 Pro compare to the current model?

There’s no size difference between the current gen and PS5 Pro models, there’s just a slightly revamped design; the changes are mostly internal. Cerny highlighted “The Big Three” when detailing the console: Larger GPU, Advanced Ray Tracing and AI-Driven Upscaling.

PlayStation says the PS5 Pro has 67% more Compute Units than the current gen PS5 model. It also offers 28% faster memory and up to 45% faster rendering for gameplay.

The PS5 Pro also features Advanced Raytracing. Cerny says this allows the rays to be cast at double, and at times triple, the speeds of the current PS5 console.

The console boasts AI-driven upscaling. Using PSSR, or PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, the PS5 Pro uses machine learning technology to bring sharper images and detail to games.

Featuring a 2TB SSD, a much needed addition given the console won’t come with a disc drive.

Console specifics are yet to be revealed, but the main takeaway is PS5 users will no longer need to choose between Fidelity and Performance modes.

What games are getting a boost on the PS5?
