Nintendo Direct | Everything announced

On Thursday morning we had one of the greatest Nintendo Directs in a long time.

Four Mario games on the way, including a standalone Princess Peach title, a new Detective Pikachu game, a bunch of remakes, and a handful of fresh DLC.

Here’s all the big announcements.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder

Two words for you all; Elephant + Mario.

He’s been a cat, a raccoon, a frog, he’s turned into liquid metal and can fly – but there’s now there’s one more thing Mario can tick off the list – become an elephant.

Super Mario Bros. Wonder honestly looks like a treat. It’s classic 2D Mario with a randomly evolving world around you, lots of colours and music to accompany you along the game.

You play as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach and Toad, with the addition of Princess Daisy!

Mario’s next big adventure is coming to Nintendo Switch October 20 this year, you can read more about Super Mario Bros. Wonder and pre-order here.

Star Ocean The Second Story R

Releasing between FFVII and FFVIII, the original Star Ocean The Second Story, came out during what many would consider the golden age of RPGs.

Unlike its famous neighbours, Star Ocean had a real time battle system that allowed you to move freely around the battlefield.
There are over a dozen potential party members you can recruit, depending on the main character you choose and the decisions you make during the game.

It also had amazing RPG systems such as being able to pickpocket anyone, a full on battle colosseum and even an Iron Chef style cooking competition!

The remake has an interesting new art style that keeps the 2D spritely look of the old games and combines it with a 3D world, the end result being quite pretty.

There’ll be new combat features in the remake too, including ‘follow up attacks’ where party members not in your current line up can still aid you in battle.

Star Ocean The Second Story R releases on November 2nd.

Pikmin 4

What is Pikmin? Nobody knows.

But there’s a trio of Pikmin games already available with a fourth on the way!

Grow, guide, and gather with your Pikmin, fight baddies, explore caves… This time you can play at night (a big selling point from Nintendo which I don’t understand). The trailer actually looks pretty cute, so we’ll likely give it a go.

Pikmin 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 21. Check it out here.

Super Mario RPG

Mario and Peach are teaming up with Bowser for this remake of Super Mario RPG.

The original game launched on SNES back in 1996 to critical acclaim. It gained cult status, as it wasn’t your typical Mario game, but went down in history as one of the greats.

Check out Super Mario RPG when it comes to Nintendo Switch on November 11.

More details can be found here.

WarioWare: Move It!

Everyone’s favourite angry little man is back will a party special.

Nintendo says WarioWare: Move It! features over 200 microgames, which are essentially really short minigames, which will keep players laughing for hours. Grab a joy-con and up to four mates and shake your booty.

You can pre-order WarioWare: Move It on the online store here, it’s coming to Nintendo Switch on November 3.

Princess Peach Game

(Nintendo of America)

Princess Peach is getting her own game!

We don’t know much, except that it’s brand new and coming next year. It has a pleasant 3D art style and the action looks to be taking place as part of a stage play.

We haven’t seen a standalone Princess Peach game since 2006’s Super Princess Peach on 3DS. The hype is real for this one.

We’ll bring you more details as they come to hand.

Luigis Mansion: Dark Moon Remaster

(Nintendo of America)

The 2013 3DS classic, Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is coming to the Switch and will be getting a visual facelift to boot. The action-adventure games follows Luigi as he explores a series of mansions, capturing ghosts with a tricked out vacuum cleaner.
Help Luigi rescue Mario from King Boo and restore peace to Evershade Valley.

Detective Pikachu Returns

Detective Pikachu is back!

The game’s description reads “This Pikachu may have a self-assured attitude and talk like a middle-aged man, but he somehow manages to keep his lovable charm.” – I don’t know what’s charming about a middle-aged man with a coffee addiction trapped inside a cute electric mouse creature… But we’ll go with it for now.

Detective Pikachu Returns is coming to Nintendo Switch on October 6. Pre-order through Nintendo here.

MythForce

Mythforce is a new medieval fantasy roguelike with a retro, Saturday morning cartoon aesthetic. The art style is reminiscent of 80s cartoons like ThunderCats and He-Man & Masters Of The Universe.

Choose a hero and crawl some dungeons, either solo or with up to 3 others.

With an 80s synth soundtrack and deliciously cheesy dialogue, this first-person melee-roguelike is looking like a pretty unique experience.

Headbangers Rhythm Royale

Headbangers: Rythm Royale is a werid and wacky battle-royale where you’ll compete against 29 other pigeons, to win the title of Master Headbanger!

There’ll be 23 unique musical minigames designed to test your memory, rhythm, reflexes, reaction time and rap ability!!!
Plus you can personalise your pigeon with hundreds of accessories, from deadlocks to dinosaurs, sharks to sumos; go out and win in style.
