New Xbox controller goes green

Xbox fans sure love a new controller design, which is good since there seems to be a new one coming out every other week at the moment!

This new one though is a little special. Not just a snazzy new colour scheme, the ‘Remix Special Edition‘ is made partly from recycled materials.

Water Jugs, CDs, Car headlight covers… even cannibalising other controller parts.

One-third of the Remix is made up of old controller regrind and reclaimed materials. Not only is the reuse of plastics good for the planet, it also has a cool added bonus of giving each Remix it’s own look and feel.

“Mixing post-consumer recycled resins with regrind consisting of previously molded colored parts creates custom, earth-tone colors with subtle variations, swirling, markings, and texturing.” – Daniel Ruiz, Senior Marketing Manager, Xbox Accessories.

Xbox says they drew inspiration from nature, using earthy tones with select pops of colour, to give a vibrant yet calming feel.

The bumpers, triggers and side grips feature a topographical inspired textures, adding to the controllers uniqueness.

The Remix also includes a rechargeable battery pack, doing away with disposable batteries that are harmful to the environment.

Hats off to Xbox for exploring ways to use less new plastic and reduce waste.

The Xbox Wireless Controller – Remix Special Edition will be released on April 18.
