New Project L info from Riot Games

Riot Games has introduced ‘Duo Play’ for its upcoming free-to-play fighting game, codenamed, Project L

In a new video, Executive Producer Tom Cannon revealed that Project L is a 2v2 team-based fighting game where you can play with your friends or against them.

“This means teams of two players can face off together in the same match, with each player piloting a single champion,” he said.

Game Director, Shaun Rivera explained the play style as working “a bit like tag team wrestling”, with one player controlling their champion on stage while their teammate waits off-screen for the right moment to tag in.

According to Rivera, this type of play was designed from the ground up purposefully to encourage teamwork.

While 2v2 play was revealed today, Riot Games further confirmed that Project L will also support 1v1 and 2v1 matchups, as well as being able to play as a solo fighter and control two champions at once.

Another aspect of Project L shown off was ‘Fuse’ options, whereby players can select their preferred playstyle prior to starting a match. One example that was given was ‘2x Assist’ that allows teams to throw out two assists back-to-back instead of just one.

Project L still has a long way to go until its full release, but Riot Games have announced that a playable demo will be available at EVO 2023.
