Eldritch Horrors Await: Overwatch 2 – Season 9

Overwatch 2‘s newest season has landed. We’ve dived in, here’s a quick rundown of what cosmic horrors await.

Season 9: Champions is an Eldritch Horror-themed season that brings some pretty hefty gameplay updates, as well as some spectacular Lovecraftian cosmetics.

Updates to Competitive Play

Blizzard has added post-match insights to show players exactly how our rank changes with a progress tracker which is then explained in modifiers. Season 9 also brings a reset to everyone’s ranks. Let’s hope it will mean a clean slate and more meaningful rank climbing.

The new season also brings a new tier above Grand Master ‘Champion’ to give the top players something new to aim for.

But for the rest of us low-to-mid-rank players, Blizzard has also introduced Jade Weapon Variants. Which are thankfully available for all ranks to unlock. However, Golden weapons will only be unlockable with Legacy Competitive points. A new currency that will accumulate with unused competitive points at the end of every season.

Facing a Cosmic Crisis

Source: Blizzard

A new non-canon Co-Op event Cosmic Crisis. Play as one of ten select heroes in a team of four. You must unravel the mystery behind a crash landing on the Antarctica Peninsula. Each week brings its own set of unique challenges and branching objectives, but tread carefully—a traitor is lurking within your ranks…

Crazy in LOVE with these skins!

This season Blizzard has dropped some out-of-this-world cosmic cosmetics. Featuring the Ancient Caller Mythic Moira, the unsettling Tentical Horror Torbjorn, and some other darkly-themed skins appearing in the shop at a later date. Let’s not forget the Valentine’s Day skins to top it all off!

What else is new?

  • A new multiplayer experience in Hero Mastery: Gauntlet. Work as a team to fend off waves of enemies, protect towers, and upgrade defences.
  • Changes to Pharah’s Hover Jets: a new ability called Jet Dash, and adjustments to her overall mobility and flight mechanics aim to empower her playability and versatility.
  • Junkertown Map Change: In an attempt to balance gameplay, new cover options have been added to the first checkpoint. A night-time lighting theme has also been added.
  • Global Changes: Adjustments across the board aim to make damage more consistent and increase all heroes’ health pools. A new passive for health regeneration out of combat has also been added.
