BlizzCon 2024 is officially cancelled

Blizzard’s annual celebration event, “BlizzCon”, has been officially cancelled for 2024.

The rumour mill has been turning for a while, as many conventions across the gaming world continue to vanish.

Now, Blizzcon’s entire future appears to be skating on thin ice.

On Friday, Blizzard announced the beloved convention would not be going ahead.

The reason? It’s not quite clear, with Blizzard posting a statement to the BlizzCon website.

“This decision was not made lightly as BlizzCon remains a very special event for all of us, and we know many of you look forward to it,” the statement read.

“While we’re approaching this year differently and as we have explored different event formats in the past, rest assured that we are just as excited as ever to bring BlizzCon back in future years.”

You can read the full statement on the BlizzCon website.

I say this with all the hope and and love in my heart: I am hopeful it will return next year and I’m sure their plans for other industry trade shows and conventions like Gamescom will be as tasty as ever.

BlizzCon is typically held every year. However, it has now been cancelled five times in 2006, 2012, 2020, 2022 and now 2024. The reasons vary from COVID-19, untimely game releases, and less than desirable court proceedings.

We’ll keep you updated on any fresh BlizzCon news as it comes to hand.
