Back in June, SQUARE ENIX finally brought the beloved Kingdom Hearts series to PC via Steam, a move that delighted longtime fans and intrigued newcomers alike – myself included.
The launch included all three collections: KINGDOM HEARTS HD 1.5 + 2.5 ReMIX, KINGDOM HEARTS 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, and KINGDOM HEARTS III + Re Mind (DLC), allowing players to relive their favourite moments or dive into the magic for the first time on both PC and Steam Deck.
Looking at all those titles of the games sent an overwhelming sense of dread through my body – I wanted to play these games so badly, but I had no idea where to start.

Thankfully, a big chunk of the QD team is dripping in Kingdom Hearts nostalgia, and with some threatening loving encouragement, my journey into the Realm of Light was a sure thing.
A New Journey
As someone who missed out on the original Kingdom Hearts games as a kid, I approached this series with fresh eyes, spurred by a recently discovered love for Final Fantasy VII. With the series now available on Steam, and SQUARE ENIX sliding into my inbox, I thought it was the perfect time to embark on this journey – and what better way than to share it with my young daughter?

Together, we started the first game, exploring its enchanting yet somewhat perplexing world. While my daughter was initially drawn to the familiar Disney characters, her interest waned, and she soon went to bed. I, however, found myself hooked, continuing the adventure long into the night.
Despite the high definition updates, the game unfortunately didn’t fully capture my daughter’s attention, but I remain hopeful for the future. The first game in the series is now deep in my mind, and I still have many hours of Kingdom Hearts magic ahead of me.

Released in 2002, the Kingdom Hearts series, under the direction of Tetsuya Nomura, has shipped over 36 million copies worldwide.
This series has become a cherished collaboration between SQUARE ENIX and Disney, captivating players with its epic story across three games and multiple special editions.

Now, with the games available on PC, both seasoned fans and new players can join Sora, Donald Duck, Goofy, and a host of other beloved Disney characters on their adventures. The opportunity to battle the Heartless and explore various Disney worlds is just a download away – and about $80 AUD a game. The best bang for your buck is the Integrum Masterpiece, which has it all and is priced at $144.95 AUD.
