The Plucky Squire New Gameplay Revealed

New footage of The Plucky Squire from All Possible Futures and Devolver Digital is giving It Takes Two, and that game slapped hard for me in 2021. In fact, I’ve been on the lookout for similar games and I think this might be it.

What you need to know: The Plucky Squire follows main character Jot and his friends who exist in a 2D storybook. However, they discover a 3D world outside the pages, causing gameplay to alternate between 2D and 3D environments. Picnic fun times!

It’s giving Toy Story.

Jot traverses the real world outside of his storybook where he gets around with a jetpack and sword, but also back in 2D form, on a cake tin of sorts, he had a laser rifle taking down a spaceship! I’m especially keen to explore these unique areas that offer different types of gameplay to mix things up and keep things fresh.

Players solve puzzles as they journey through the different lands, and battle enemies in an almost roguelike Cult of the Lamb way as seen in the 2D storybook environment (also published by Devolver and another one of my favourites). The game is truly brought to life by its unique artwork, which was co-directed by James Turner of Pokemon/Game Freak fame.

Sadly for me, The Plucky Squire is not co-op or multiplayer, but who’s to say it might not be in the future? *looks at devs*. It’ll be available later this year on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox X|S, and PC via Steam. You can wishlist it now.
