If you haven’t heard of DAVY x JONES yet, listen up, me hearties. It may be in early access, but this pirate adventure is in shipshape. It’s not your stock-standard pirate pilgrimage; in DAVY x JONES, you take to the skies rather than the seas.
This month, the game has unloaded a bountiful update, leaving a trove of new content for pirate enthusiasts (and gamers) alike.

The Kraken Hunt adds a substantial new layer to DAVY x JONES, shifting part of the experience away from pure first-person brawling and into a strategic roguelike. It’s an update that widens the game’s periscope in an interesting way.
Sky Hunts and Ship Command
The most significant addition is Sky Hunts and its related quests, a new mode that places you in command of Abby, a hauntinly adorable living ship used to navigate airborne encounters in the Sea of Clouds. These sections introduce ship-based combat built around positioning, and managing cooldowns rather than direct, moment-to-moment action.

You recruit officers with distinct roles and abilities, and their synergies shape how each run plays out. Some builds favour aggressive pushes, others reward careful pacing and defence. Progression here feels modular, encouraging experimentation as you unlock new options and refine your approach between attempts.
Ultimately aiming to take down the Kraken behemoth — thar she blows!
Officer Progression and Orders
Officers aren’t just passive bonuses. Each brings active Orders that can swing encounters when used well, such as Eddie’s lure ability. This adds a layer of tactical timing to encounters. During runs you can also assault forts and enemy vessels on foot, which utilises the game’s ground combat after a stylish cutscene. Choosing when to commit an Order and how many forts and vessels to abordage becomes central to surviving Sky Hunts.

Parts earned during runs feed back into your crew, letting you reinforce strengths or shore up weaknesses. It’s a system that rewards planning without bogging the player down in menus.
The Kraken Encounter
At the centre of the update is the Kraken itself, the behemoth in the centre of each run. It acts as both a narrative and mechanical endpoint for Sky Hunts and the closer you get the harder things get. It all ends in a chaotic close-range battle with the beast’s eyeball.

Rather than feeling like a simple damage check, the fight emphasises survivability and decision-making, making it a fitting test of the update’s new mechanics.

Early Takeaway
Taken on its own terms, Kraken Hunt introduces a treasure trove of meaningful systems rather than filler content. Crew quests, upgrade trees, and the mighty Kraken encounter add structure and variety. No scurvy here; this is a fresh way to experience DAVY x JONES while complementing what’s already there.
DAVY x JONES is currently available in early access on PC via Steam for $26.50 AUD. Check it out… or walk the plank.
Access to DAVY x JONES was provided to Quest Daily by the publisher.
